Can someone with a bachelor’s degree find a job for greater than $42,000 annually?

Hart S asked:

I live in Washington, DC, and have worked as a legal assistant (for $40,000 plus occasional overtime) and now for a federal agency (for $42,000), during the past 2 years since I graduated from college.

Problem is, I don’t enjoy the dysfunctional management at this agency, and I feel humiliated since I’ve lost all will to work for them, because of continual mistreatment. I’m very discouraged, because when i started here I was all gung-ho, and then nobody appreciated that or even spoke to me very often. Now I keep getting nonsense assignments and demeaning treatment, and it sucks!

I’ve looked for other jobs, but can only seem to find entry-level jobs for max. $40,000. My rent is only $600 per month, but I suffer from anxiety and depression and pay approx. $800 per month for regular psychotherapy, which puts a major crimp in my budget.

I have a B.A. in economics and political science, from a university consistently ranked no. 35 - 40 in US News and World Report

Sure. The top-paying jobs with a bachelors degree are in engineering and finance. The lowest-paying are in art and philosophy.
