Paralegal or legal assistant?

Amanda asked:

Im a senior and totally and completely stressing out about college. I wanted to get into something with the legal field but i don’t wanna be a lawyer i was looking into paralegal and a legal secretary. I would like a bachelor’s degree i guess but does it really matter between that and an associates when becoming one or the other? I find it like impossible to find a university that offers a bachelor’s in paralegal. With all the research i have been doing a lot of people say the paralegals pretty much just do all the lawyers work so its kind of discouraging me and im thinking that legal secretary would be better…PLEASE help. I’m pretty much lost here any and all help with this matter would be great!
Well i would like a degree…a degree is more likely to get me hired…right? So just an associates in paralegal would be fine so i could just be a legal secretary because that would work for me i love the idea of secreatrial work for some reason lol.

I’m going to graduate next year with a Political science degree. I have no idea what to do in life though?

itsallaboutobama asked:

I majored in political science because i loved studying politics, government and so on. However, I’m not sure what I want to do for work. I’ve been a Loan Officer Assistant for 2.5 years and I was a Legal Assistant for a year…and I already know that I don’t want to be a lawyer!

Does anyone know what careers I can choose? Teaching perhaps? Let me know
Also I dont’ think law school would accept me because I got too many Ws at the junior college cause i was 17-19 years old and I was facing economic and personal hardships + i was not ready for college.

I really don’t like my job.what can I do to help the situation?

Lady_S asked:

I received my Bachelors Degree in Political Science and another in Criminology, Law and Society, in June 2006. I took a year off to take the LSAT and apply to law school. I work at a family law firm as a part-time legal assistant, and I’ve been doing this kind of work for almost 3 years now. Considering I have 2 degrees, the pay is pretty crappy! But I didnt wanna get a full-time job and then say, “Babye, I’m going to law school now.” I thought that would be messed up and not very professional!
Anyways, I’m sooo sick of my job right now! All I do is file crap allllll freakin’ day! I’m a college graduate….I should be doing more and getting paid more! Yes, I know this was kinda my decision, but it just sucks, ya know!

What do you think I can do to ease this problem???
The only thing that I came up with and have done, is that I’m starting an ADDITIONAL part-time job as a Police Cadet, just until law school starts. That’s also part-time, and the pay isn’t great, but its something that I’ve always wanted to do! And it’ll just be until law school starts, of course.
I’m sorry….did you guys not read tis correctly??!! I said I’ve applied to LAW SCHOOL and I’m starting in August!!!
I just wanna know how to get thru this job for a few more months!

Bored and wasting away at work - Now what?

Proud Momma asked:

I have a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. That doesn’t exactly translate in to a particular field. So I went back and got a Paralegal Certificate on top of that. I worked as a Legal Assistant for about a year for an Attorney that did Real Estate, Estate Planning, and business. After that, I did some work with a non-profit for about a year using my Real Estate knowledge. Then I somehow landed in an Executive Assistant role for about a year at a Medicaid Managed Care Company. Then they closed.

So for personal reasons, I moved out of state and took a general office job. I figured it would be good to be in a low stress job while I adjust to a new city, new house, new baby, etc. Now I’ve been here about a year and a half and I am BORED! I am capable of so much more than answering phones, ordering supplies and sending out mail.

I am trying to figure out what to do next. On one hand, I now live in a large city with a Law School….

What to do????

How to stay on in the United Kingdom?

visor07 asked:

I’m on a working holiday visa working in the UK, it is 1 year work/1year travel! But in november by working year expires and I want to continue working in the UK. I work permanently for a lawyer firm as a legal assistant(no law degree). Does anybody know how I can extend my visa (without marrying somebody or without going on a student visa, then you can only work 20hours a week).

With a science background how easy is it for me to be a legal secretary at a big law firm?

wwinny asked:

Well I graduated with a Biology degree from University of Virginia (a good school). Then I worked as a Biology research assistant at UVA, then MIT.
So I have extensive research skills. Problem is I lost interest in science a long time ago. Because in the academia we are expected to work over time without pay it is hard for me to take classes in the field I am interested in which is law.
I would very very much like to work for a big law firm as a legal secretary before I decide if I want to go to law school or not.

So how likely am I to get a job like that?

Any lawyers, HR personal out there?

Thanks!
