Should I be a doctor or physician assistant?

Steve asked:

I just turned 21 years old and I have not started my premedical prerequisites yet. I am currently attending my last year at a community college. I know I would be able to complete my prerequisites with good grades. Currently, I have a 4.0 average in all of my college work. I plan to transfer to UC Berkeley to obtain a degree in Legal Studies. Lately, I have been feeling that I will end up burning myself out if I go to medical school and that I may be 29 by the time I graduate. I don’t care about earning a lot of money, but I will need a god paying job because I live in Silicon Valley. I would rather pursue a medical degree, but I am just not sure about going to school until I am in my late 20s.

Will I be able to get into a decent law school with a low GPA, but (somewhat) great LSAT score?

Ashley asked:

Graduated from a University of California school w/ a degree in Legal Studies/Political Science: 2.75 UGPA. LSAT score is 169. Currently working for a law firm in Los Angeles as a legal assistant - mostly doing litigation work. I’m applying to only CA schools and only the following so far: USF, Chapman, Southwestern & Western. I’m wondering if I should shoot for some more competitive schools or if I’m basically screwed because of my less than stellar undergrad performance.

Is a Diploma for a Legal Secretary enough or should I have a Associate degree for the better positions?

Cheryl B asked:

I went to school for a Medical Assistant in 2006 but found out that it is not for me. I realize that health care is the place to be for employment. I have always been good in computers and believe that I would be great as a secretary and noticed that they make great money starting out with 30k. Should I go to school for 12 months and get a diploma or consider getting a Associates Degree.
I am currently not working in the medical field and did not get the experience needed to be hired immeadiatly. I would like to comment on my second answer given to me regarding jobs paying 30k. I have found many employers paying different amounts from $8 to 30k a year. I am aware that it will depend on my place of employment but was also looking at the opportunity to make 30k and more. They are out there and I noticed that they want a person to have 2 to 5 years experience in the legal field. I am in a bad situation and really don’t know which way to turn.

Is an online paralegal degree acceptable?

mom of 3 asked:

I already work in a legal office as an assistant…same work less pay. There are no schools in my area that offer paralegal degree. Would a future attorney accept an online degree? Is it worth it or should I just save my money…..

Is distance education for real?

hastlyalert asked:

I’m considering becoming a paralegal. The school I want to enroll with (The Paralegal Institute [TPI] out of Phoenix, AZ) is a member of the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). I’ve contacted NALA and they approve of the school (institution).

I see that the school is also accredited by the Distance Education and Training Counil (DETC) which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Counicl for Higher Education Accredation (CHEA).

I researched DETC degrees and can’t find a good answer as to wether or not these schools are legit. Will an attorney hire a paralegal who earned a degree accredited by a DETC school and also approved by NALA?????

Any answers by attorneys and non-attorneys will greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

How does one get experience as a financial analyst?

Jeremy asked:

All financial analyst jobs seem to require 1 to 2 years experience as a financial analyst. So how does one ever get that experience if you can’t get a job without it?

I have a degree in Finance, but since college I’ve worked as a legislative aide and a legal assistant. I’d still like to be a financial analyst if I had the chance, to use my degree and because it pays well but I don’t know how to break into that industry.

MBA vs. Law Degree, Help Deciding?

Keith C asked:

Here’s the dilemma. I work at a law office right now as a legal assistant/office manager. What this means is that I am in charge of not only writing legal documents, but also our marketing and business protocols. My boss, our attorney, always jokes about how much of a better CEO I would be than a future law partner, which I’m pretty much ensured were I to go to law school.

I enjoy both aspects of my job equally, but I would agree that I am a slightly better business man. I guess what my question pertains to the kinds of jobs an MBA would provide you with, as well as the upward mobility it gives. Is the salary of a person with an MBA anywhere comparable to that of your typical entry level lawyer, which where I live, is about $70,000 for a regional firm?

Thanks in advance for the information, I appreciate any and all help on the matter.

Is it legal for medical personel to be paid contractor pay?

xxmilitarychikxx asked:

I was hired in at my company as medical assistant for the company. They paid me a contractors pay $150.00 a day. I was working almost 450 hours a month and only making $4K. When they had me sign my non exempt employee forms 2 1/2 months later to be paid hourly, they told me by CA law I have to be paid hourly, not salary, and not contractors pay. Then I was cut down to 40-50 hours. Obviously. Then aren’t they required to pay me for the HOURS I worked illegally? They used my services for as long as they could and used my time. I was there 13-24 hours a day only making 150 a day outside in the 130 degree heat no air conditioning and no electricity. What do I do to get my money that I am owed? They owe me $18,000 I calculated up my hours including overtime. and that is what they owe me. I wanted to know for sure that what they did is really illegal and where I go to get the documents to prove it so I can take it to the company and demand that money or I will report them?
