What is the job outlook for Paralegals/Legal Assistants?

MP asked:

I have a bachelors degree, and am going to earn a paralegal certificate this December from an ABA approved program. 6 months ago I got a job as legal assistant for a bankruptcy firm. I currently earn $15.00 per hour, which is better than the assistant manager job I had before. Several of my classmates have gotten jobs within months of taking the paralegal program. I researched the industry before I considered this line of work, and it looked pretty good in comparison to where I was at before. My question is; What does the industry or job outlook look like for paralegals in the next 5 years within a declining economy? Would I be better off getting a few years experience in the paralegal field, and then going to law school, pass the bar, and become an attorney for better earning potential and leverage in this industry? I know it all boils down to what I want, but I just want some opinions on the matter. Obviously, after going to law school I would have some significant school loan debt, vs. little to no debt for just being a paralegal.

Where in Texas to go for a bachelors degree when you want to be a paralegal?

♥ Jen ♥ asked:

I want to be a paralegal/legal assistant. I’m currently in an ABA approved 2 year college going for my Associates in Paralegal Studies. I know this satisfies most job descriptions for paralegals but I also want to get my bachelors degree. Which major would best suit this field? I’m not interested in law school afterwards, so I don’t need to be pre-law. Would business administration be something that would help a paralegal?

Thanks for reading. Much appreciated.

I have a Bachelors Degree in English but no job offers. Is my degree useless in today’s job market?

Anonymous asked:

For 5+ years, I have been trying to break into a career in journalism, communications, public relations or advertising with my Bachelors of English degree. I have not gotten even one call for an interview. Do the career areas listed above require more specific Bachelors Degrees than English? Or is it my lack of previous experience? It seems like all the jobs today require previous experience. There are so few entry level jobs. How am I supposed to get experience if nobody will hire me entry-level? Do you think my degree is the problem or my lack of previous experience? Or do I need to move to a small town to find an entry-level job? (I live in a large city now). I wonder if I should go back to college for a more useful degree such as Business Administration. I currently have not been able to get any jobs besides legal secretary/administrative assistant. It is humiliating working a secretarial job when I have a college degree.

I want to take distance education, is it worth it?

monkeyundermypillow asked:

Most places don’t offer full distance education, I found a place, but it isn’t a degree or diploma, just a program. I was interested in Legal Assistant. I am currently on maternity leave and just want to be able to help out my family. The course is 10k and I just wonder if employers will recognize this program or if they just look for popular universities and colleges here in Canada. Thanks!

Can someone with a bachelor’s degree find a job for greater than $42,000 annually?

Hart S asked:

I live in Washington, DC, and have worked as a legal assistant (for $40,000 plus occasional overtime) and now for a federal agency (for $42,000), during the past 2 years since I graduated from college.

Problem is, I don’t enjoy the dysfunctional management at this agency, and I feel humiliated since I’ve lost all will to work for them, because of continual mistreatment. I’m very discouraged, because when i started here I was all gung-ho, and then nobody appreciated that or even spoke to me very often. Now I keep getting nonsense assignments and demeaning treatment, and it sucks!

I’ve looked for other jobs, but can only seem to find entry-level jobs for max. $40,000. My rent is only $600 per month, but I suffer from anxiety and depression and pay approx. $800 per month for regular psychotherapy, which puts a major crimp in my budget.

I have a B.A. in economics and political science, from a university consistently ranked no. 35 - 40 in US News and World Report

Is work experience commensurate with having a college degree?

Fatdude427 asked:

I am a legal assistant from Georgia. I am certified as such. I only have a few months experience thus far.

Being that I do not have a college degree, I sometimes wish I did. I haven’t been able to earn the respect of my employers (two so far).

If I were to start working at a lawfirm soon, and I end up having five solid years of experience as a legal assistant, is that experience comparable to having, say, a bachelor’s degree in prelaw? I mean, would an employer/law firm consider me as being as valuable as someone with a four year degree if I had the work experience?

Which is better, specifically, in helping to earn decent money in this particular arena: experience, or education?

I just got an interview for a Police Cadet position with a local police department, and I’m sooooooo excited!!! Please share any experiences, tips, or advice regarding law enforcement, which you might have!!!

Is it possible to return to college, get financial aid, & have child care assistance & living expenses paid?

sexy asked:

I am a divorced 40 year old single mom of 2. I am seriously thinking of returning to college to get a bachelors degree and then maybe law school. I did some college in my younger years but never finished or obtained a 2yr degree. Does anyone know if I can return as a displaced homemaker and have my living expenses and child care (after care) paid for while I attend college? Will I received assistance for the same from the government? Has anyone ever achieved the same? I have no help and I am on my own. I am a low paid legal assistant and made less than 8k last year due to being laid off ( my boss took ill). I am always told I’d make an excellent atty. I want to go for it but being a single mom always held me back.
